Travel Health Summary

Cyprus is one of the lowest-risk destinations in the Mediterranean: there is no malaria, no yellow fever requirement, and standard routine vaccinations plus a tetanus booster cover most visitors. Hepatitis A is sometimes recommended for longer stays or travellers eating widely in village tavernas and rural areas, and rabies is not present in the local animal population. The practical health risks are environmental rather than infectious โ€” summer temperatures regularly exceed 40ยฐC inland, heat exhaustion and dehydration are the most common reasons visitors seek care, and sun exposure on the coast is intense between June and September. West Nile virus is transmitted by mosquitoes in some summers, so evening repellent use is reasonable. Healthcare is genuinely good: public and private hospitals in Nicosia, Limassol and Paphos meet EU standards, pharmacies are well stocked and English is widely spoken by medical staff. EU and UK travellers should carry an EHIC or GHIC card, which covers state-provided care in the Republic of Cyprus but not the north.
